Creating a positive environmental footprint is our daily motivation at NASH. We want to set an example by using technology and innovation to reconnect with nature. That's why we've developed the first environmentally friendly razor, focusing on a comfortable and resource-efficient shave without unnecessary plastic waste. That's why most of the razor's components are made from either renewable biocomposite or metal. The packaging and printing materials are made from the incredibly ingenious and ecologically sound raw material "grass paper." We keep delivery routes short and work exclusively with certified partners. However, we are aware that even we at NASH are not yet perfect. We still have to use a minimal amount of conventional plastic in the production of our replaceable blades. In this blog post, we would like to explain why this is the case, how we still leave a positive environmental footprint, and how, with your support, we will become the first brand in the world to reduce the use of conventional plastic in the production of replaceable blades to absolutely zero.
The production of razor blades places high technical demands on the raw materials used to guarantee a perfect and comfortable shave. However, bio-based raw materials have technical differences in tolerance compared to conventional plastics, which makes the production of razor blades more difficult. According to an article in Plastics Technology, a leading magazine for plastics technology, bio-based plastics have lower heat resistance and higher moisture absorption than conventional plastics, which can affect production tolerances. This can mean that in some cases bio-based plastics cannot be processed as precisely as conventional plastics. Nevertheless, at NASH we focus on minimal use of plastic in the production of our razor blades and ensure that our use of plastic is environmentally friendly. For example, we use biocomposite made from leftover wood processing to replace conventional petroleum-based plastics in our razors.
Environmentally positive because : In addition to our minimal use of plastic, we at NASH have entered into an environmental partnership with Cleanhub to collect twice the amount of plastic waste that is inevitably generated by the sale of our razors. Cleanhub is an organization that specializes in collecting and recycling plastic waste in poor countries. This is especially important because many of these countries do not have sufficient infrastructure to dispose of the plastic waste in an environmentally friendly way. This means that for every 1 gram of plastic that we still have to put into circulation, we collect at least 2 grams of plastic waste together with Cleanhub. This happens in places where plastic waste is the biggest problem for the environment. This creates a positive environmental footprint with every NASH razor.
At NASH, we are committed to completely eliminating the use of plastic in the production of our razor blades . For example, we use biocomposite made from wood processing residues to replace conventional petroleum-based plastic in the handle, button, and station of our razors. Biocomposite is an ecological, high-tech material made from sustainable raw materials and is extremely strong and stable. This ensures that our razor blades provide a perfect and comfortable shave despite the minimal use of plastic. We also use grass paper instead of conventional paper for our packaging. Grass paper is made from grass fibers and requires significantly less energy and water to produce than conventional paper. This allows us to achieve a positive environmental footprint for our products.
Every purchase of a NASH razor supports our goal of being the first brand in the world to reduce the use of conventional plastic in the production of disposable blades to absolutely zero. We are convinced that we can achieve this goal together by investing the proceeds from every purchase in the further development of our products and in the search for alternative bio-materials. With every purchase of a NASH razor, you are actively contributing to creating a better future for our planet, shave by shave. At NASH, we are confident that by working together with our customers and partners, we can achieve a positive environmental footprint.
At NASH, we recommend disposing of our razor blades with normal household waste. Unfortunately, the plastic in the blades cannot be recycled, as razor blades can be contaminated with bodily fluids and, for hygiene reasons, are not suitable for recycling into, for example, a yogurt pot. However, it is important to us to leave a positive environmental footprint. Each NASH razor blade contains only 1.8g of plastic. At NASH, we are committed to ensuring that every gram of plastic we use in the manufacture of our products is collected elsewhere – where plastic waste is the biggest problem on our planet. That's why we work with our environmental partner Cleanhub to collect at least 2 grams of plastic waste for every 1 gram of plastic. At NASH, we otherwise completely eliminate unnecessary plastic from all products and packaging to leave a positive environmental footprint.
At NASH, we firmly believe that every small step in the right direction counts towards leaving our planet better than we found it. We know we're not perfect yet, and there's still a lot to do to make our products even more environmentally friendly. But we're also certain that it's worth fighting for an important cause like our planet and constantly improving, even if we're not perfect. Because only in this way can we work together to make a positive change and preserve this wonderful planet for ourselves and future generations. We invite you to join us on this journey and become environmentally positive together.
