OneTreePlanted projects we support in Spain

As you already know, the collaboration with Onetreeplanted is of great importance to us at NASH as we aim to leave a positive environmental footprint on our planet.

Tree planting is particularly important in Spain , as the country is threatened by desertification. Spain is the country most affected by desertification in Europe and suffers from increasing drought and soil erosion. Tree planting can help improve soil quality and slow the spread of desertification.

Onetreeplanted is actively committed to planting trees in Spain and has launched various projects to achieve this goal. One of these projects is the planting of trees in the Sierra de Gredos, a mountain range in central Spain. Here, native tree species such as oaks, pines, and elms are primarily planted to promote biodiversity and reduce soil erosion.

Another Onetreeplanted project is the reforestation of wetlands in the Valencia region. Trees such as willows and alders are being planted to restore wetlands and promote biodiversity.

Onetreeplanted works closely with local partners and communities to ensure tree planting is sustainable and long-term. The organization also engages volunteers to engage the local community in the process and raise awareness about the importance of trees and the environment.

Onetreeplanted recognizes that the increasing aridity in Spain poses a major challenge for tree planting . Therefore, the organization focuses on planting tree species that are adapted to drought and require little water. One example is the Aleppo pine (Pinus halepensis), which is widespread in Spain and well-adapted to dry conditions.

The Aleppo pine is an evergreen tree species that typically reaches a height of 15–25 meters. It has a slender, columnar crown and reddish bark. The needles are approximately 10–20 cm long and have a bluish color. The Aleppo pine is a very hardy tree species and can grow even on poor soils and in arid areas. It is capable of efficient water use and can survive even with low rainfall.

Another tree species planted by Onetreeplanted in Spain is the holm oak (Quercus ilex). The holm oak is an evergreen tree that typically reaches a height of 10–20 meters. It has a dense, rounded crown and gray bark. The leaves are leathery and glossy, with a dark green color. The holm oak is also adapted to arid conditions and can grow even on poor soils. It is capable of efficient water use and can survive even with low rainfall.

In addition to the Aleppo pine and holm oak, Onetreeplanted also focuses on planting other tree species adapted to Spain's dry conditions. These include the cork oak (Quercus suber), as well as species such as Betula alba, Corylus avellana, Fraxinus excelsior, Acer campestre, Ilex aquifolium, Salix sp., Taxus baccata, Castanea sativa, Alnus glutinosa, Cornus sanguinea, Fagus sylvaticus, etc.

Another problem is land use . In Spain, a large amount of land is used for agriculture, which often leads to soil overexploitation. Onetreeplanted is committed to promoting tree planting in agricultural areas and improving soil quality. Working with farmers is an important part of its strategy.

Farmers play an important role in tree planting , as they often own large areas of land and can therefore make a significant contribution to reforestation and soil improvement. Onetreeplanted therefore works with farmers to promote tree planting in agricultural areas.

One example of collaboration with farmers is the project in the Valencia region where Onetreeplanted is restoring wetlands. Here, the organization works with local farmers to encourage tree planting on agricultural land. Farmers are supported in adapting their agricultural practices to improve soil quality and promote biodiversity.

Another example is the project in the Sierra de Gredos, where Onetreeplanted plants native tree species such as oaks, pines, and elms. Here, the organization works with local communities and farmers to promote tree planting on agricultural land. Farmers are supported in adapting their agricultural practices to improve soil quality and promote biodiversity.

However, working with farmers isn't always easy, as farmers are often focused on short-term profits and may view tree planting as a barrier to their agricultural activities. Onetreeplanted therefore focuses on raising awareness among farmers and providing them with knowledge and skills to demonstrate the benefits of tree planting.

Overall, the collaboration with Onetreeplanted is of great importance to us at NASH , as we are committed together to an environmentally positive future. Planting trees in Spain is an important step in that direction, and we are proud to be part of this project. We hope that our collaboration can help slow desertification, promote biodiversity, and protect soil from erosion.
